Investor sentiment looks mixed and cautious, oil struggles
Asian stock markets slipped on Wednesday as halted vaccine trials and an impasse on US stimulus negotiations dented investor sentiment. Citing a safety concern, Eli Lilly and Co joined Johnson & Johnson in pausing the clinical trial of its Covid-19 antibody treatment. The Shanghai Composite was up down 0.56%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched up 0.11%, South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.94% after the Bank of Korea kept its key interest rate steady at 0.50%.

Dollar edges lower while gold prices advance along with stocks
Asian stocks were mixed-to-higher on Friday, with equities in mainland China surged as they returned to trade from long holidays. China’s Caixin/Markit services Purchasing Managers’ Index for September came in at 54.8, higher than expected. The Shanghai Composite finished 1.68% higher on Friday while Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 0.12% and 0.31%, respectively. Sydney’s S&P-ASX 200 closed flat at the end of the week.

Global equities wobble ahead of FOMC minutes
Asian equities were mixed-to-higher on Wednesday, with MSCI's index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan edged 0.2% higher to fresh two-week highs despite Trump canceled talks with Democrats saying that negotiations will stop until after the election. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.7% while Japan's Nikkei fell 0.2%. China's stock markets are closed for holidays until October 9.

Yen and gold on the defensive as stocks are back in the green
Asian stocks were up on Monday amid the news that Trump was recovering well and could be discharged as early as today. While being in the hospital, the US President tweeted his wish for the U.S. Congress to reach an agreement on the latest stimulus package. On the negative side, the number of virus cases globally has topped 35 million as of October 5. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.23%, South Korea’s Kospi gained 1.29%, Australia’s ASX 200 jumped 2.59%. Chinese markets were closed for a holiday.

Equities, oil bleeding as Trump tests positive for coronavirus
In Asia, markets in South Korea, Shanghai, and Hong Kong remained closed on Friday while the Tokyo Stock Exchange resumed trading after an outage Thursday due to a technical failure. The Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.67% and Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 shed 1.38% as risk aversion re emerged after President Donald Trump said he had tested positive for the coronavirus, adding to uncertainty in the run-up to the U.S. presidential elections next month.
